About the Massachusetts Bar Association

Incorporated in 1911, the Massachusetts Bar Association is a non-profit organization that serves the legal profession and the public by promoting the administration of justice, legal education, professional excellence, and respect for the law. The MBA represents a diverse group of attorneys, judges, and legal professionals across the Commonwealth.

A new House of Delegates governs the business of the MBA each association year and is comprised of officers and section chairs, along with the two immediate past presidents, regional delegates, at-large delegates and representatives of MBA's affiliated bar associations, the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, and the Massachusetts ABA delegate. MBA officers include the president, president-elect, vice president, treasurer, and secretary. Each fulfills a one-year term. The president is responsible for selecting the association's executive management board and section leadership. Section Council chairs select a group of 10-15 legal professionals to serve on their respective councils. The section councils are responsible for much of the association's activity throughout the year under the leadership of officers.
