Corey Mastin Obtains Defense Verdict in Four-Day Trial in Salem District Court

Morrison Mahoney Associate Corey Mastin obtained a defense verdict in a four-day trial in Salem District Court, where the plaintiff rolled a golf cart over on a hill at the insured’s course. The defense proved that warning signage was both present and sufficient to advise golfers regarding the hill. After a lengthy expert voir dire, the plaintiff’s expert, a building inspector, was found not qualified to testify to anything other than the gradient of the hill, notwithstanding that the plaintiff’s counsel had intended to elicit testimony from him regarding numerous matters relating to golf carts, golf courses, ANSI standards, and municipal ordinances. The jury also awarded $42.50 in damages on the golf course’s counterclaim, relating to the plaintiff’s damaging the golf cart in the rollover.
