Trial Verdict 2018-2: Morrison Mahoney Partner Ted Murphy

Morrison Mahoney Partner Ted Murphy received a defense verdict in chemical exposure case for the client, a large defense contractor for the Navy.

The plaintiff, a retired painter, brought the case under the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Act alleging that his kidney cancer was related to his exposure to trichloroethylene (TCE) and other chemicals with which he worked for many years at our client's nuclear shipyard.  The case was tried at the historic United States District Court in Charleston, South Carolina.  In a 40‑page opinion, the judge concluded that plaintiff had not proven a causal connection between his cancer and his exposures based on the competing opinions of the parties' medical experts and the scientific literature.
