Morrison Mahoney Partner John Knight recently received a defense verdict in the Lowell Superior Court after a four‑day trial. The plaintiff claimed that she fell at a restaurant as a result of tripping on a mat. The plaintiff suffered a ruptured hamstring that resulted in special damages totaling $75,000.00. She claimed that the fall was caused by a combination of the floor being unreasonably slippery and/or a defect in the mat that presented a tripping hazard. After deliberating for approximately forty-five minutes the jury returned a verdict in favor of the defendant, finding that the defendant was not negligent.
