Trial Verdict 2016-5: Boston Partner W. Joseph Flanagan

Boston Partner Joe Flanagan successfully defended an automatic door manufacturer by obtaining a defense verdict in Plymouth Superior Court. The elderly plaintiff was leaving a medical building through an automatic door and was knocked over by the door as it closed. She fractured her hip and elbow and claimed that her ongoing nursing home care was caused by the accident. The plaintiff alleged that the door should have been equipped with a sensor to prevent it from striking her. The plaintiff received six-figure settlements during trial from the door maintenance firm and building manager, both of whom claimed that they relied on the manufacturer to provide a safe door.
