Boston Partner Peter C. Knight prevailed in a two-week jury trial brought against a primary care physician. The wrongful death claim involved a 44 year old patient who had diabetes and a history of amputations of toes. Five days after the last visit with the physician, he presented to the emergency department with overwhelming septicemia. He was transferred to a tertiary care center where an infected fractured hip was discovered, but he succumbed. After the jury deliberated for four hours, a defense verdict was returned.
