Scott Douglas Burke

Scott Douglas Burke is a Partner in the Boston office of Morrison Mahoney LLP. He has been with the firm since 1990, and a partner since 1995. Mr. Burke concentrates in the defense of non-medical professionals (lawyers, insurance agents, real estate brokers, securities traders, security guards, construction professionals) against claims of malpractice and improper employment practices before state and federal trial and appellate courts as well as administrative agencies. Additionally, Mr. Burke provides counsel and direct representation to insurers regarding coverage issues and bad faith claims. Mr. Burke also tries high-exposure or complex cases in the areas of premises liability, trucking, products liability and business litigation matters.

Along with defending claims of malpractice and wrongful employment practices, Mr. Burke provides counseling in risk management services to professional clients on ethical issues and assists with the drafting of severance agreements, termination letters and claim releases, as well as supervising the investigation of in-house claims and presenting multi-media seminars and mock depositions or trials to professionals and their staff.

Prior to joining Morrison Mahoney LLP, Mr. Burke served as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan, New York in the office of Robert M. Morgenthau. He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and New York, but has tried cases in five states. Mr. Burke graduated cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1987 where he was a member of and published in the American Criminal Law Review, and cum laude in 1984 from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a bachelor of science in psychology.

Mr. Burke and his family reside in Swampscott, Massachusetts, his home town, where he provides hours of volunteer service each year on the Zoning By-Law Review Committee, Finance Committee and as an elected Town Meeting member.
